Unfortunately summer’s over. But we have great news, your winter wardrobe is here. And it’s especially excellent. This season it’s all about layering. Texture, contrasting fabrics and a touch of nostalgia too.

We also look to wardrobe classics – the overcoat, the bow blouse, the shearling aviator jacket – and how to reinvent them, adding a signature JOSEPH twist.

A hybrid skirt, in knit wool and crepe de chine, is worn with a generous cashmere roll neck. Photography throughout, Bibi Cornejo-Borthwick.

Take the overcoat. Here (above, right), it’s been crafted in long-hair alpaca for a touch of wit and whimsy. Modern too. A newness that will undoubtedly refresh all it’s worn with.

Not forgetting the double-breasted houndstooth coat (above, left). We’ve enlarged its proportions and flat-pressed the sleeves to bring an architectural splendour to this design classic. A masculine flight jacket in white shearling and cognac leather is worn on top. Both are forever pieces.

The modern clash of traditional pattern and hardworking fabrics worn altogether.

What’s underneath? An exceptional knit or two. We recommend an oversized cashmere sweater cut high on the neck. Or a military stitch sweater, elongated in the arms for complete comfort all winter long.
