MEET MARK THOMAS // JOSEPH HEAD MENSWEAR DESIGNER
This year, Creative Director Louise Trotter appointed Mark Thomas as Head Designer of Menswear and the Autumn/Winter’14 collection is his first for JOSEPH. The collection sees a mix of the core luxury wardrobe essentials combined with early 90’s inspiration. References to Anglo culture, such as mods and skinheads, are juxtaposed against timeless Franco sophistication.
JOSEPH:MARK, WHAT DOES JOSEPH - PAST AND PRESENT - MEAN TO YOU?
Mark Thomas: In the past, JOSEPH has been about separate pieces –great knits and leather, for example. Now, following all of the building that’s been done on the women’s collection, combined the development of the menswear side, we will have a complete brand.
J:WHAT ARE THE ESSENTIALS? WHAT SHOULD EVERY MAN HAVE IN HIS WARDROBE?
MT: Essentials can be summed up as anything from JOSEPH’s new Iconic line –men’s garments like the parka, or the jean jacket, which we’ve also produced in women’s sizes. They’re essential to any wardrobe.
J:YOU WORK AND LIVE BETWEEN LONDON AND PARIS? WHERE DO YOU FEEL MORE INSPIRED? MORE AT HOME?
MT: London is home, but in Paris, I always feel like a foreigner, which I find both exciting and inspiring.
J:GOING FORWARD, WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM JOSEPH MENSWEAR COLLETIONS?
MT: Luxury essentials and the continued development of JOSEPH’s DNA.
